An Austrian Railway Feast

Explore this gorgeous region rich with beauty and fabulous trains with tour leader Werner Schorn of Germany. Werner is familiar with all of the ins and outs of European rail, and is happy to share his knowledge with railfans! Our trip begins in Munich and includes Innsbruck, Salzburg, Graz and Vienna. Each city has efficient tram systems, interesting attractions and museums and-best of all-wonderful rail excursions: the mountain-climbing Zugspitzbahn, steam-powered Achenseebahn and Zillertalbahn, tiny Mariazellerbahn, and regular trains over engineering feats such as the Semmering Pass and six-mile Arlberg Tunnel.

The Royal Scotsman Classic Tour

One of the most exciting destinations in the world is Scotland, with its gorgeous coast, rugged hills, open sky, its history and culture-they're all the makings of legend. And what better way to experience this grand land than on The Royal Scotsman? Join IRT owners Owen and Eleanor Hardy on board a Grand Classic Tour. We'll board the train at Edinburgh's Waverley Station to the familiar tune of the bagpipe. Travel across the magnificent Forth Railway Bridge, one of the first cantilever bridges in the world, visit Strathisla Distillery--home of Chivas Regal--and explore Ballindalloch, one of Scotland's most romantic castles. The sheer luxury of the train itself is overwhelming, with its spacious cabins and lovely dining rooms, open-air observation platform and impeccable staff. The food and wine are famous around the world for their tasty perfection. The IRT Society has chartered the entire train, but there is space for just 36 passengers. Crimean Express by Private Train

Our journey begins in fascinating St. Petersburg, and we will traverse Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and the Crimean Peninsula. New Zealand's Rail Wonders

Join veteran IRT tour leader Allan Boyer as our group heads to New Zealand for a magnificent tour of both the North and South Islands by rail. Highlights include visits to the Mainline Steam Trust Locomotive Depot, the Glenbrook Vintage Railway, mainline rail on the world-famous Raurimu Spiral, Gisborne Vintage Steam Train, Wairarapa Rail Line, Ferrymead History Village and Railway, Tranz Alpine route, Shanty Town Steam Railway, Taieri Gorge Railway, Kingston Flyer, overnight cruise on the Doubtful Sound. India: By Steam to the Hill Stations Nov. 14-30; Optional Extension: Nov. 30-Dec. 8 Our distinctive railfan journey begins in Calcutta, where experienced guide Peter Jordan shows you the India he loves, by rail! After our chartered streetcar tour in Calcutta, we take the overnight Darjeeling Mail from Calcutta to New Jalpaiguri. From there we enjoy several steam train excursions on the 2-foot-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway with its 5% grades plus visits to its loco shops and museum. One of the highlights will be as we traverse the famed Batasia Loop, offering spectacular views of snowy Kanchenjunga-third highest mountain peak in the world. This tour offers photographers endless opportunities for great pictures, as road vehicles will accompany the train. American Orient Express' Transcontinental Rail Journey

The American Orient Express Transcontinental Rail Journey will take you from the east coast to west, rolling through various American landscapes-from the lowlands of South Carolina to Louisiana's bayou country, the valley of the Rio Grande and the sunset mesas of the Southwest. Along the way, take in some of the country's most famous landmarks: the cobblestone streets of Charleston, S.C., New Orleans' French Quarter, the Alamo, Rio Grande and Grand Canyon National Park.
