Salt Lake City

Day 1 - Arrive in Seattle, Washington
After independent arrivals at the hotel, we meet for our private welcome dinner. We take this opportunity to introduce the train staff and other guests who will be joining us on our journey. This evening we overnight at the Renaissance Madison Hotel. (D)

Day 2 - Seattle / Board the American Orient Express
After breakfast in the hotel, we travel by motorcoach and tour Seattle. After our guided tour, we continue to the train station, where we board the train. This evening, dinner is served in the dining cars before our first overnight is spent on board en route to Montana. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Bigfork, Montana
After a leisurely breakfast on the train, we depart on motorcoaches and travel to Bigfork. At an elevation just above 2,900 feet, this small village is nestled at the junction of Flathead Lake and the Swan River. Wonderful galleries showcase the works of numerous local artists and there are many quaint shops for browsing. For those who prefer to spend the day outdoors, fishing, and golf excursions will be offered. Once back on board, enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Glacier National Park
Before departing on our day's journey, breakfast is served on the train. Glacier National Park was established at the height of romantic train travel, and we reach this section of the park much as passengers did in 1913, when the station was built. As part of our tour, we journey along the
Going-To-The-Sun Highway, considered the most scenic road in the country, with a stop at St. Mary's Lake. This evening, we return to the train in East Glacier. Enjoy dinner and overnight on board en route to Great Falls, Montana (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Great Falls, Montana
Enjoy breakfast on board before departing on our next adventure. We transfer to the C.M. Russell Museum - dedicated to western artist Charles M. Russell. The museum, along with an annual art auction, attracts more than 10,000 artists and art collectors each year. Stopping at the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and Interpretive Center, we learn more about their famous expedition. We return to the train for lunch as the beautiful countryside passes by our windows. Nearly one million acres of land make up Helena National Forest, with diverse land types ranging from low elevation sagebrush to peaks that rise more than 9,400 feet. We arrive in Wolf Creek and travel by motorcoach to Gates of the Mountains Wilderness Area for a spectacular boat cruise along the Missouri River. This evening we enjoy dinner and overnight on board en route to Idaho Falls. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Yellowstone National Park
After breakfast on the train, we board motorcoaches and set out to experience Yellowstone National Park. Wildlife such as black and grizzly bear, bald eagles and herds of mule deer roam through the two-million acres of protected land at Yellowstone National Park. The more than 10,000 boiling springs, mud pots and geysers including Old Faithful are testimonies to the geothermal activity miles below the earth's surface. The day is spent exploring the park with frequent stops for photo opportunities, lunch and guided tours. After a full day in the region, we check into a hotel near the park for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
This morning, we enjoy breakfast at the hotel before boarding motorcoaches. Fields of buttercups, pine forests and the delicate stands of aspen decorate the valley at the base of the serrated Teton Mountains. Centuries ago, Native Americans hunted the great elk herds that gathered at the foot of the range perhaps the most abrupt and breathtaking in America, with Grand Teton Mountain rising to 13,770 feet. We spend the day exploring this spectacular region. Late this afternoon, we transfer back to the train to enjoy a relaxing evening, complete with a special farewell cocktail reception and dinner before our last overnight on board en route to our final destination - Salt Lake City, Utah. (B,L,D)

About the American Orient Express
- Named by the editors of The International Railway Traveler® as one of the
top twenty trains in the world-

The 1940s and '50s represented an era of romance and glamour. It was a time when passengers boarded the great streamliner trains bound for points across North America. Today, after $15 million in renovations, these beautiful cars once again ride the rails, glistening with polished mahogany and brass and designed to reflect the style of the golden age of travel - when traveling was meant to be relaxed and savored - not rushed.

The fifteen vintage carriages, painted in their signature blue and gold, carry approximately 100 passengers, who are attended to by a highly trained, professional staff and crew. Their sole purpose is not just to meet, but to surpass your expectations of the quality and service befitting the honored tradition of the great luxury streamliners.
