Savor the nostalgia of traveling by steam train through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world: the Canadian Rockies. Pulled by CPR’s "Empress" steam engine, the train travels at a leisurely pace through the Fraser River and Thompson River Canyons, past the Kicking Horse River and Spiral Tunnels, through the magnificent Rockies and finally to the Alberta prairies. Travel is during daylight only, with overnights spent in top hotels.
Itinerary
Day 1: Calgary
Check in to Calgary’s five-star Fairmont Palliser Hotel for a one-night stay and dinner.
Day 2: Calgary-Banff-Lake Louise
Depart the station this morning and head to Banff. Afternoon tour of this beautiful area including stunning Lake Louise and its famous Chateau. Listen for the cracking noise of huge chunks of ice dropping into the lake. We spend two night at the Relais & Chateaux Post Hotel and Spa.Day 3: Lake Louise/Icefields Parkway
Today travel by motorcoach along Icefields Parkway. See waterfalls, emerald lakes, alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks. Columbia Icefield—one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle––is our destination. We take a Snow Coach, a specially designed vehicle with giant tires, onto the icy slopes, always a hit with IRT travelers.Day 4: Lake Louise- Revelstoke
Our train starts the steepest part of its climb through the Rockies. On reaching the Continental Divide, we pass into British Columbia. We descend into the railroad landmark of the Spiral Tunnels to Kicking Horse Pass. Pause at Golden then through Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park. We arrive in Revelstoke, where we visit the the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel. Overnight.Day 5: Revelstoke- Kamloops
An early run to Kamloops, passing Craigellachie, where the last spike was driven to complete the transcontinental rail link on Nov. 7, 1885. Enjoy a short excursion on the Spirit of Kamloops heritage train before returning to Kamloops for overnight stay.Day 6: Kamloops- Vancouver
Travel along the Thompson and Fraser Rivers Canyons as we head to Vancouver. We run along Burrard Inlet. Transfer to hotel for dinner and overnight.Day 7: Vancouver
Transfer to Vancouver airport after breakfast.
