Train Type: Luxury
The Tour
Always wanted to see Scandinavia? Now's the chance to do it by luxury train. The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express heads to Denmark and Sweden in 2013. Enjoy once-in-a-lifetime mileage over track never traversed by the real Orient-Express; a brand, new route which may - or may not - be repeated. And the price is fantastic.
Explore three European cultural capitals on your own, with individualized planning provided by your IRT travel advisors, whose Virtuoso membership gives us access to special prices, exclusive venues and experiences.
The Itinerary
Days 1-2: Venice
Begin your journey by spending two nights at the five-star Hotel Cipriani in Venice. One of Europe's No. 1 hotels, the Cipriani is a paradise of beauty and calm, on Giudecca Island, five minutes by the hotel's complimentary motor boat from Piazza San Marco.
The Society of IRT is ideally suited to help you get the most out of your stay in Venice. Through our membership as Virtuoso travel advisors, we have access to the best the world has to offer, be it a private transfer airport/hotel -- by boat, special restaurant, tour or cruise to making your dinner reservations at one of the Cipriani’s fantastic restaurants. (Which do we love the most? We'll talk about that when you call!)
Day 3: On board VSOE
Today your transfer is included to the train station, where you will board the iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express at Venice Santa Lucia station. Soon, you will enjoy a three-course lunch in one of the beautifully restored restaurant cars. Take the afternoon to relax in the comfort of your cabin, gazing at the beautiful passing scenery.
Afternoon tea will be served in your cabin. In the evening enjoy a four-course dinner prepared on board by the train’s skilled French chefs. (It's hard to decide: do you want the early seating for dining -- and enjoy the Swiss Alps as you dine -- or do you want to admire the mountains from the bar car?) Before retiring to your cabin, visit with other passengers in the bar car, enjoying the lively music.
Day 4: Arrive Copenhagen
Breakfast is served in your cabin by your steward at a time you choose, which is such a luxury in today's fast-paced world. Spend the day admiring the Austrian and German countryside or enjoying the company of your fellow travelers over coffee in the bar car. Enjoy a leisurely three-course lunch served in another of the beautiful restaurant cars.
In the afternoon, relax in your cabin admiring the spectacular scenery through. Late this afternoon, it is time to disembark as the train arrives in Copenhagen, Hovedbanegard Station. Once you have arrived in Copenhagen you will be transferred to the Marriott for your overnight stay.
Day 5: Copenhagen/VSOE
Spend the day exploring the sights and sounds of sparkling Copenhagen, made special by planning with your IRT advisor. Tonight, depart for the last leg of your journey on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. After you have settled into your private cabin, it will be time for a delicious four-course dinner in one of the train’s splendid restaurant cars. After dinner, retire to your cabin, which has now been transformed into a bedroom.
Day 6: VSOE arrives Stockholm
Breakfast is served in your cabin by your steward at a time to suit you.The train pulls into Stockholm, Central Station where you will be transferred to the Grand Hotel for a two-night stay. Again, aided by the IRT Society's expert planning resources through its unique Virtuoso connections, make the most of your stay in Sweden's vibrant capital city. Spend the next two days exploring the wonderful sights and sounds of Stockholm at your leisure.
Day 7: Stockholm
Enjoy your day exploring Stockholm at your leisure.
Day 8: Tour ends in Stockholm
Extend your journey elsewhere in Europe by train or cruise, or fly home.
