The Tour

Take this legendary Trans-Canada rail tour on two first-class trains: The Canadian, with VIA Rail’s lovely service, and the all-daylight Rocky Mountaineer train. See Niagara Falls, and spend four days exploring the pristine wilds of Lake Louise, Jasper and Banff National Parks. Tour runs between Toronto and Vancouver. Cross northern Ontario’s scenic lake lands, the prairies of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta and the towering Canadian Rockies, before ending on the Pacific Coast.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Toronto
Arrive Toronto, and explore Canada’s largest city at your leisure. Overnight in Toronto hotel.

Day 2: Niagara Falls
Enjoy a full-day motorcoach tour to Niagara Falls, one of the world’s great wonders. Cruise on Maid of the Mist to base of Horseshoe Falls (subject to cruise schedule). Overnight in Toronto hotel. (L)

Day 3: Depart Toronto
In the evening, begin four-day journey across Ontario and Prairie Provinces on board the Canadian. Settle into your cozy cabin and overnight on VIA Rail's Canadian. 

Days 4-5: On board Canadian
Continue rail journey across western Canada toward Jasper, with all meals included on the train. Overnight on VIA Rail's Canadian.  (B, L, D)

Day 6: Jasper
Early afternoon arrival in Jasper, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and teeming with wildlife. Transfer to Jasper hotel for a two-night stay.  (B, L)

Day 7: Jasper
Jasper National Park is a World Heritage Site and Canada's largest National Park. Today you will enjoy a short scenic tour including the many natural attractions, rugged peaks, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of some of the many animals that call this mountain park home. The remainder of the day is free to explore Jasper at your leisure. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 8: Lake Louise
Travel to Lake Louise via one of the most scenic highways in the world, the Icefields Parkway. A stop will be made at Athabasca Falls before arriving at the Columbia Icefield. Here you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn more about its geological features. Your driver/guide will explain how glaciers are formed and point our some interesting geological features. Afterwards, a brief stop will be made at Bow Lake before arriving in Lake Louise this afternoon. Overnight in Lake Louise.

Day 9: Yoho Tour, Lake Louise-Banff
This morning is at your leisure in Lake Louise. Afternoon half-day tour into Yoho National Park. See the Spiral Tunnels, Emerald Lake and natural rock bridge spanning Kicking Horse River. Overnight in Banff.

Day 10: Banff
Tour Banff—Bow Falls, Banff Gondola, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner, the Hoodoos. Continue on to Kananaskis for the highlight of today's adventure, a 12-minute Summit Helicopter Tour over the remarkable landscape of the Rockies. The rest of the day is free for you to spend at your leisure in Banff. Overnight Banff hotel.

Day 11: Banff-Kamloops
Board the Rocky Mountaineer for daylight trip to Kamloops. Travel between high peaks of Canadian Rockies, over mountain passes through tunnels, along rocky lakeshores and across ranchlands. Experience the Continental Divide, Spiral Tunnels—a remarkable feat of railroad engineering, Kicking Horse Canyon, Rogers Pass, Craigellachie (where last spike of Canadian Pacific Railway was driven), glaciers and snow-capped Canadian Rockies peaks. Most exciting spot on the train: the open-air observation platform. Overnight in Kamloops.  (B, L)

Day 12: Kamloops-Vancouver
Reboard the Rocky Mountaineer for another full day on board. The scenery changes to desert interior through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade Mountains and lush green fields of Fraser River Valley. Be on the lookout for the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate. Arrive Vancouver. Overnight Vancouver hotel.  (B, L)

Day 13: Vancouver
Tour ends with checkout from Vancouver hotel.

Prices are per person in US Dollars and do not include Canadian GST (6.7% for WB trips; 3.9% for EB trips) or fuel surcharge. Prices for triples and singles are available on request.

*Note: The Vancouver-Toronto (eastbound) itinerary is 12 days, with one day less in Jasper, than the 13-day Toronto-Vancouver (westbound) itinerary outlined above. Please click here for eastbound itinerary.

Deposit required: $368 per person.

Ask about reductions if you prefer not to take included helicopter tour. Ask about upgrades if you wish to try to get the Romance package or the triple bedroom on VIA.
