Itinerary
Day 1 (Friday) - London / York / Edinburgh
Your trip begins in style with a champagne brunch served aboard the Northern Belle as you journey from London to York where you visit the stately home of Castle Howard and take tea in the Grecian Hall. Dinner is served on board as you continue to Edinburgh for a three-night stay at the Caledonian Hotel.
Day 2 (Saturday) - Edinburgh
After breakfast, a guided tour introduces you to Edinburgh, with its medieval Old Town and Georgian new Town - the afternoon is free for further exploration. The evening is spent aboard the royal yacht Briannia, once the floating home to Her Majesty The Queen - dinner is served in the State Apartments.
Day 3 (Sunday) - Oban & Isle of Mull
Brunch is served on board as you pass by the magnificent Scottish Highlands and splendid views of Loch Lomond. Sail from Oban to the Isle of Mull, where you'll be welcomed at Duart Castle, ancestral home of the Laird of Lachalan. The 13th-century castle serves as the perfect backdrop to displays of traditional Scottish Highland dancing and falconry. Enjoy a gourmet Scottish dinner aboard the Northern Belle on the return to Edinburgh.
Day 4 (Monday) - Chester
This morning, the train returns to England via the rolling countryside of the Scottish borders and the tranquil farmland of the Pennine and Cumbrian Fells. Continue along the edge of the Lake district with lunch onboard - arriving in the walled city of Chester, where you will stay for three nights at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel. A guided walking tour is included this evening.
Day 5 (Tuesday) - Wales / Portmeirion / Chester
As brunch is served, travel into Wales - the land of song - and on to the fascinating Italianate "village" of Portmerion. In the afternoon, tea is taken while watching a demonstration of sheepdog trials. Dinner is served on board before arriving back in chester for a choral recital in the magnificent Chester Cathedral.
Day 6 (Wednesday) - Bath
Today, the Northern Belle travels through the scenic heart of England, towards the historic city of Bath, the Roman spa town visited by Jane Austen's heroines. After a guided tour of Britain's best preserved Georgian city, including the Roman Baths, return to Chester whilst enjoying dinner on board.
Day 7 (Thursday) - Chester / London
Breakfast at your hotel before boarding the Northern Belle for the final time. Enjoy lunch on board as the countryside gives way to the metropolis.

Northern Belle:
The Northern Belle comprises 6 dining carriages, with a maximum capacity of 252 passengers. Each carriage seats 42 guests and contains tables of two and four, with plenty of room for guests to move around and enjoy the train’s sociable atmosphere. As a reflection of the affluent ‘Belle’ trains of the 1930s, each Northern Belle carriage bears the name of a significant stately home. Furnished with commissioned designs, fabrics and marquetry, the Northern Belle is truly a celebration of British heritage and skills.

Perfectly positioned for both shopping and sightseeing, The Balmoral is adjacent to Waverley station.
Chester Grosvenor Hotel
Built in 1865, The Chester Grosvenor is a magnificent, black-and-white building set beside Chester's Roman walls. On its doorstep are the city's famous Rows the medieval streets that house a wealth of specialty shops. The hotel has been showered with awards, including five stars by both the AA and RAC, and the ETC Five Star and Gold award.
