Meet your tour leader:

Peter Jordan

Pete was born with curly hair and, having been raised in a village in Kent, England, with several other Petes, inherited the nickname "Fuzz" at an early age. His interest in railways goes back to the age of one, when he repeatedly requested that his stroller was aimed at his local railway station—and he has maintained his interest in the Southern Railway (UK) since then. He first worked his local signal tower at the age of eight.

A fascination for narrow-gauge trains began with a visit to the Ffestiniog Railway in North Wales in 1964, after which he joined the Ffestiniog Railway Society. Pete spent twenty years driving the "National Express" coach service from Sheffield to Pwllheli (via the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog, of course). He joined the Ffestiniog Railway Society board in 1987, gaining responsibility for fund raising, and was elected to Chairman in 1991. From January 1999, he served a five-year term as one of the line’s five trustees.

Pete and his wife Linda first visited India in 1979 and, as with many visitors to India, were so captivated by the country they returned as often as finances would allow. As a confirmed narrow-gauge fan, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was naturally a favorite destination. And when the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Society (DHRS) was formed, he took on the position of Treasurer, but pressure for the membership for tours to Darjeeling led him to organize the first DHRS tour to Darjeeling in 1999. It was deemed a success, and the tour became an annual event. Demand increased and, since 2002, THE DHRS runs two tours a year. Pete is now semi-retired (having taken on a partner to do most of the accounting work) to allow the proper planning and running of more tours to northeast India.

Pete will be leading our 2006 tour, India: By Steam to the Hill Stations.
