This new tour offers a fabulous opportunity to travel through the Swiss Alps—by steam—during the snow-laden winter months. We include the Rhatische Bahn’s unique ‘Steam Powered Snow Blower’. Witnessing the ‘Xrot9213 is a truly fantastic sight!

Itinerary
Thursday, Feburary 1st: Depart London (D)
We depart London Waterloo by Eurostar at 10.10 to Paris Gare du Nord transferring by coach to Paris Gare de L’Est. We join the 15.15 train to Basel where on arrival we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Friday, Febuary 2nd: Steam on the Bernese Oberland Railway (B,L,D)
We depart Basel at 07.30 in reserved first class seats, and pass through spectacular mountain scenery to arrive Interlaken at 09.40. Here we join our special steam hauled train departing at 10.00 through the mountains to Grindelwald on the metre gauge Bernese Oberland Railway arriving back at Interlaken at 13.00 to have lunch (included).
We then depart Interlaken at 15.00 on our special charter to Lauterbrunnen, arriving back at Interlaken at 17.00.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the Lindner Grand Hotel, Interlaken.
Saturday, February 3rd: Steam over the Brunig Pass (B,L,D)
After breakfast we join our special train at Interlaken East Station. Today we will enjoy an early journey by steam over the Brunig Pass to Giswil where we will have lunch.
Following lunch we continue steam hauled on our privately chartered metre gauge train to Luzern. On arrival we join a service train for the short journey to Thalwil where we check into the four star Hotel Sedartis for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Sunday, February 4th: Steam charter to Davos (B,L,D)
After breakfast we take the morning train to Landquart. Here we join the Rhatische Bahn vintage train hauled by a metre gauge 2-8-0. After leaving Lanquart we climb all the way up to Klosters, the ski resort made famous by its royal and celebrity patrons. We then go on to Davos where lunch will be provided at Hotel Terminus. From Davos we continue our circular route through Thusis to Chur where we are due to arrive at around 16.00. We enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation at Hotel ABC in Chur.
Monday, February 5th: Steam Snow Blower in action (B,L,D)
We depart Chur on the morning train to Samedan. On arrival at Samedan we join our special charter of the steam ‘Snow Blower’ and three passenger coaches for the journey to Alp Grum and back. We enjoy lunch in a restaurant in Alp Grum. We return to Samedan on the snow train.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at a hotel in Samedan.
Tuesday, February 6th: Travel to Tirano (B,D)
We travel by train from Samedan to St Moritz in around fifteen minutes where we transfer to our special train hauled by a classic 2-8-0 steam locomotive. On leaving St Moritz we travel through Pontresina. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant close to the station before we continue to Scuol.. After returning on our special steam charter to Potresina we will continue to Tirano by regular train in first class seats. Dinner, bed and breakfast will be in Tirano.
Wednesday, February 7th: Lake Como / Gotthard route to Luzern (B,L,D)
After breakfast we join our special chartered vintage train at Tirano Station, hauled by an Italian 625 class 2-6-0 or a 740 class 2-8-0. We travel west through the Italian Alps to Colico and then head south with magnificent views over Lake Como, past Bellano, Lirena and Lecco, where we enjoy typical Italian food in a local restaurant. We depart Lecco still steam hauled by our Italian steam locomotive on the scenic and steeply graded line to Como.
On arrival, after a short break, we transfer to a EuroCity train for a journey over the spectacular Gotthard route to Luzern on the shore of Lake Luzern.
Dinner and overnight accommodation in Luzern.
Thursday, February 8th: By Train to London (B,D)
After a morning departure from Luzern we travel via Olten to Basel where we change trains. We board the midday train to Paris Gare de L’Est, which takes the attractive route via Mulhouse and Belford. On arrival it is only a short transfer to the Gare du Nord station. We board an early evening Eurostar service to London and enjoy champagne on departure and a four-course dinner arriving back in London around 20.00.*Return flight alternative: Zurich-London Heathrow direct flight departing Zurich at 13:15 and arriving London by 16:30 (cost reduction applies; see pricing)
