Located in northeastern Germany on the banks of the River Spree, Berlin is the country’s capital as well as its largest city, covering approximately 550 square miles. It is a city of culture, politics, media and science. The VSOE now visits this historic city.
Berlin is home to renowned universities, orchestras, museums and is well-known for its festivals, diverse architecture and contemporary arts. Dramatic history, eclectic architecture and a thriving social scene await in Berlin.
“I was blessed to be on the inaugural London-Berlin VSOE…this route is among the best…viewing castles from your cabin or the club car is so wonderful….my friends at The Society of International Railway Travelers took GREAT care of me.”
— R. Ray, VSOE London to Berlin, 2016
Day 1: London
Board the Belmond British Pullman at London Victoria station for your 11 a.m. departure. Sit back and enjoy brunch served with a Bellini as you travel through the Kentish countryside.
After crossing the Channel, board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Enjoy a delicious four-course dinner, prepared by our skilled French chefs.
After dinner retire to your cabin, which has now been transformed into a cozy bedroom.
Arrive at Paris Gare de l’Est at approximately 9:25 p.m. for an hour-long stop.
Day 2: Berlin
Awake to the verdant countryside scenery, as breakfast is served in your cabin at a time to suit you.
Later, take the opportunity to explore the train, perhaps enjoying a pre-lunch cocktail in the Bar Car as the resident pianist sets a sophisticated tone. Enjoy a leisurely three-course lunch, served in one of the three beautiful restaurant cars.
While away the afternoon, admiring the ever-changing view from your cabin’s window as afternoon tea is served.
The VSOE arrives in Berlin at about 6:30 p.m., where all too soon your journey comes to a close.

Special Report: Click here for travel notes by Society owners Owen & Eleanor Hardy, who celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express Venice-Paris-London. We loved the Red Carnation Milestone Hotel in London. Le Meurice was our luxurious home in Paris before we rode the VSOE Paris-Istanbul for the Society’s 20th anniversary trip.
