The Tour
One of our top recommended Rocky Mountaineer itineraries! Travel one of the spectacular Rocky Mountaineer classic routes—Vancouver to Jasper, followed by several days to explore Jasper, the Columbia Icefield, Lake Louise, Banff and Yoho National Park. Tour ends in Calgary.
The Itinerary
Day 1: Vancouver
Fly to Vancouver and overnight.
Day 2: Vancouver-Kamloops
Board Rocky Mountaineer. View green fields of Fraser River valley, forests, winding river canyons, wildlife, rushing waters of Hell’s Gate, steep slopes and rock sheds along Thompson River. Overnight in Kamloops hotel.
Day 3: Kamloops-Jasper
Continue north and east to Canadian Rockies and Alberta. Train climbs along North Thompson River through mountains toward Continental Divide. View Mt. Robson (at 12,972 feet, highest peak in Canadian Rockies), Pyramid Falls, Yellowhead Pass into Jasper National Park. Overnight Jasper.
Day 4: Jasper
Tour of Jasper National Park, a World Heritage Site and the Canadian Rockies’ largest national park. See the area’s many natural attractions, rugged peaks and wildlife. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore more of Jasper independently. Overnight in Jasper
Day 5: Jasper-Lake Louise
Enjoy a motorcoach tour along the Icefields Parkway and visit the Columbia Icefield. After an Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier, continue to Bow Lake and Lake Louise. Overnight Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
Day 6: Lake Louise-Banff
Enjoy a one-hour guided lakeshore stroll followed by half-day tour of Yoho National Park. View such wonders as Emerald Lake and natural rock bridge spanning Kicking Horse River. See
Spiral Tunnels. Overnight Banff.
Day 7: Banff-Calgary
Full-day tour of Banff area: Bow Falls, Banff Gondola, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner, the Hoodoos. Summit helicopter “flightseeing” tour over the Rockies (12 minutes). Tour ends in Calgary. Overnight Calgary.
Day 8: Calgary
Tour ends with checkout from your Calgary hotel.
