During the global COVID-19 pandemic, we have worked with our partners around the world to change and rebook journeys on behalf of our valued travelers. Our partners have risen to the challenge of the times. When travel has not been possible due to the pandemic, we have been able to negotiate changes and/or cancellations amenable to our travelers. We expect that we will continue to be able to negotiate agreeable outcomes for our travelers whenever necessary due to the pandemic.
Additionally, several of our partners have issued special terms and conditions that currently supersede the existing change/cancellation terms on our website. Some of these apply to new bookings, and some apply to both new and existing bookings. The following is current as of July 22, 2021; however, these terms may be retracted or changed at any time.
Please also note that due to the high cost of our staff’s labor in modifying, changing, and rebooking journeys, a modest change fee may be charged by The Society of International Railway Travelers, regardless of circumstance, in addition to any penalty charged by our partners.
Please also note that any refunds will exclude IRT’s professional retainer fees. All professional fees to IRT are nonrefundable.
Golden Eagle Luxury Trains
(includes journeys on the Golden Eagle; Golden Eagle Danube Express; Deccan Odyssey; and Shangri-La Express, as well as the Swiss Rail Spectacular tour)
New Bookings (from June 24, 2021): Book a 2021 tour and your deposit will be fully refundable until August 31, 2021*, should you decide to cancel. *Following this date, standard terms and conditions will apply.
New Bookings (from June 24, 2021): Book a 2022 or 2023 tour now, and your deposit will be fully refundable until November 30, 2021*, should you decide to cancel. *Following this date, standard terms and conditions will apply.
New & Existing Bookings: If for any reason your future trip is cancelled by Golden Eagle Luxury Trains, you will be eligible for a full refund of all payments to the train.
You will also be allowed to transfer your booking to another date, up to 60 days before departure, if you are unable to travel due to the government restrictions in your country of residence or in the countries you are due to visit on your trip with Golden Eagle Luxury Trains.
Belmond Trains & Cruises
(includes journeys on Venice Simplon-Orient-Express; Belmond Royal Scotsman; Belmond Grand Hibernian; Eastern & Oriental Express; Belmond British Pullman. Does not include journeys on Belmond Andean Explorer or Belmond Hiram Bingham):
New & Existing Bookings (made prior to July 31, 2021) for 2021 departures: All guests with reservations made prior to July 31, 2021 will be able to reschedule their journey up to 10 days prior to the scheduled date of departure without charge by Belmond.
If, prior to the scheduled departure date, any new government travel restrictions or quarantine measures come into force that affect Belmond’s ability to operate, or our guests’ ability to travel (either in the guest’s country of departure or destination), guests will be able to either change their booking without charge, or cancel without charge and receive a full refund of any amounts paid to Belmond.
In the event that a guest tests positive for COVID-19 at any time during the 14 days prior to their scheduled date of travel, we ask that they do not travel and contact us immediately to discuss their options. Guests will be able to change their booking without charge, or cancel without charge and receive a full refund of any amounts paid to Belmond.
Guests who choose to change a booking will be able to select a new departure date from the current published schedules for 2021 and 2022, and any initial deposit already paid will be valid for use against the revised booking. Please note that all bookings will be subject to availability and a price difference may apply.
These terms replace any previous Rovos Rail release on COVID-19 and are applicable from 11 February 2021. They remain in place until such time as the World Health Organization declares the pandemic over and restrictions impacting outbound travel (in particular countries or advisories in place in Rovos Rail’s countries of operation) are lifted. Rovos Rail reserves the right to make changes to this policy given the fluidity of COVID-19. Once this pandemic is declared over, Rovos Rail will revert back to their standard terms and conditions.
Namibia, African Collage, Golf Safaris and Dar es Salaam journeys:
- Cancellations received 61+ days prior to departure will be subject to a penalty of 10% of your total tour cost.
- If, at 60 days prior to departure, travel restrictions are in place that will prohibit you from traveling to or from your Rovos Rail tour destinations, you will be offered the option to postpone to a future departure. Postponements may be subject to higher rates, depending on original date of travel and new travel date.
- If your journey is canceled by Rovos Rail due to travel restrictions or any other reason, you will be offered the option of a full refund or postponement to a future departure. Postponements may be subject to higher rates, depending on original date of travel and new travel date.
- If you wish to postpone your journey more than 60 days prior to departure, a change fee will apply. Contact us for details of your particular journey.
