“I think Machu Picchu is the most amazing thing we’ve ever seen. The Hiram Bingham ambience was super. The guide was great. He put his heart and soul into it, and he knew what he was talking about.”
— F. Miller, IRT Pullman Club member

The Itinerary
Day 1: Lima
Arrive Lima, private transfer from airport and to the exclusive Miraflores Park Hotel, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Day 2: Lima
Morning tour of downtown Lima. Visit Enrico Poli; his private art collection rivals that of most museums. His charm is famous. Lunch at Casa Garcia Alvarado, built in 1912, hosted by Ana Maria Garcia Alvarado. Dinner at the hotel’s signature restaurant.

Day 3: Lima-Cusco
After breakfast in the hotel’s open-air dining room, transfer to the airport. After a one-hour Lan Peru flight to Cusco, you are met and transferred to the stunning Hotel Monasterio, a 300-year-old former monastery. Enjoy a cup of hot coca tea and rest a while in your deluxe room, equipped with oxygen enrichment system to help you acclimatize to the high altitude in Cusco (11,000 feet). Lunch at the hotel is followed by city tour of Cusco, including the Cathedral, Temple of the Sun and the Archbishop Palace with its private colonial oil painting collection. This evening visit the Archbishop’s private gold collection. Afterwards dine in Casa Colcampata, a private residence overlooking the city of Cusco.

Day 4: Hiram Bingham to Machu Picchu
Transfer to Poroy Station this morning. After a musical welcome, board the luxurious, narrow-gauge Hiram Bingham train. It is named after the explorer who “rediscovered” Machu Picchu in the 20th century. The train descends into the Sacred Valley and passes fields and colorful villages in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Enjoy a tasty brunch, mimosas and views of the mountains and the sparkling Urubamba River. Afternoon arrival in Aguas Calientes and transfer to the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu. Check-in for a one-night stay at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge located right by the entrance to this magnificent site. Take a two-hour tour around one of the most outstanding archaeological wonders of the world, with the train’s outstanding guide. It was, for our group, one of the most inspiring and amazing  places we’d ever been. Return to the hotel for afternoon “English-style tea” followed by a replenishing massage session. Dinner at the hotel’s deluxe restaurant.

Day 5: Machu Picchu;
Hiram Bingham to Cusco Experience a magnificent dawn at Machu Picchu, which is three minutes from the hotel. When our group was there, some of us enjoyed the fabulous breakfast at the hotel; others saw the sunrise; still others climbed challenging Huayna Picchu. Lunch at the hotel. Return to Cusco by Hiram Bingham with dinner and entertainment on board.

Day 6: Sacred Valley
Full day tour of the Sacred Valley with guide. Visit the market city of Chincheros; on Sundays enjoy the arts and crafts of a typical Andean market. Enjoy a specially prepared barbecue lunch, then continue through the valley to Ollantaytambo, with original Inca houses, natural water canals and ancient terraces used by the Incas for agriculture. Finally, stop at the Sacsayhuaman fortress, with spectacular views of Cusco. Enjoy an afternoon massage followed by candlelit dinner at the Monasterio Hotel.

Day 7: Lima
Transfer to the airport for Lan Peru flight back to Lima, and return to Miraflores Park Hotel. Afternoon visit to folk-art shop and private art collection followed by a personalized shopping tour in the bohemian district of Barranco, with its antique republican construction and artsy shops. Dinner at hotel.

Day 8: Depart Lima
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for flights home.
